Ascension Islands is a group of volcanic Islands southeast of mainland New Shetland. The state of the same name covers the complete islands. It's one of the least inhabited states of New Shetland. The land is moderately fertile but hazardous, and only the Queens Atoll is suitable to live on. In the last decades some settlement appeared around a small valley on Meriams Island and on the banks of Jervis Island to benefit from selling guano, but these settlements were abandoned in the 1980s.
